YY9 creates an interesting diary of exhibitions and events showing the vast variety of styles and types of work that is currently being made by local artists, including sculptures, paintings, crafts and installation, and etc. Our coming exhibition is "Silent Fragrance - Paintings by Alannala Lau". In the beginning of this lunar New Year, spring returns to the earth. Between the Waking of Insects and the Vernal Equinox, the whole creation is full of vitality. The painter, Alannala Lau's latest paintings are finalized.

For this solo exhibition, Alannala exhibits big and small paintings of chrysanthemum as the common theme in traditional Chinese Art. Utilizing modern art language and pigments of oil and acrylic, he molds appearances of the combination of trendy look and oriental flavor. In his work, the graceful and cadenced lines of flower interlace with the texture of dribbles and sprinkles of pigments. The layers are rich and the variations of the tone are subtle. The strength picking the heartstrings brims over the placidity and tranquil. The mind of the audience lies by when they are lost in the tableau. That is exactly Tao Yuanming's poem states" ... Picking chrysanthemum by the east fence, leisurely the South Mountain is seen... That also has the true meaning. The word has been forgotten as the mind come up."

Alannala Lau was born in Hong Kong. He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1994 majoring in fine art and won the Raymond Woon Creative Prize for his graduation work. He has pursued painting as his career ever since. Since 1993 he has had eight solo painting exhibitions and participated in over thirty group shows. He had been chosen as a winner of 2002-2003 Vermont Studio Center Freeman Fellowship. His works are being collected by private collectors, art consultants, the Town Imaizumi Museum, Japan and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington DC, San Francisco, Geneva and Brussels.
